Indian Headband
This print by Homer Nelson, titled “Wabano” appeared on a 1925 calendar as part of publisher Brown & Bigelow’s “Indian Heroine Series.” The source photo by Beatrice Tonnesen was found at the Winneconne (WI) Historical Society. Detail of the illustrated headband is faithful to the original photograph. The model is believed to have been Mary Simmonds O’Grady (1896-1976).

"The Land of Sky Blue Waters" signed Dupre, thought to be a pseudonym of R. A. Fox (1860-1935), is shown on an advertising print from Shrigley's Bakery, El Paso, Ill. Fox shared a studio with Tonnesen in the 1920s and is known to have painted from several of her photos. Take a look at the closeup of the headband in the next image.
